Introducing our cast…

meet_shayna.jpgShayna Mulligan
Shayna’s life was going great – until that summer when she turned 13 and her mom and step-dad bought that crummy little doughnut shop! Now she’s finding her way though her troublesome teenage years, with plenty of school scrapes, save-the-world schemes, and shocking discoveries… not to mention weekends spent waiting tables at the shop. Hey, it’s not her fault if her notebooks and clothes all smell like fried food!

Then one day, without any warning, Shayna’s step-sister Darlene comes to live with the family… in Shayna’s already crowded basement bedroom, to be exact! Darlene thinks this is great, but for Shayna, it’s less than ideal.

Darlene’s cheery optimism complements Shayna’s grouchiness, but that doesn’t mean they always get along.

meet_joey.jpgJoey Dinkler
Shayna and Darlene’s half-brother Joey never sits still, and he’s always plotting something – but his half-baked creations (bike tricks, doughnut flavors, home-made comic books, etc.) tend to get out of control…

meet_mom-dad.jpgShayna’s Mom
This hard-working lady is the secret to the shop’s success! She works non-stop to keep up with her crazy kids and their challenges…

Darlene & Joey’s Pops
Shayna’s step-dad is a well-intentioned ex-cop, living out his dream of running a doughnut shop.

Of course, there are tons more characters… we don’t have time to introduce them all, but you can look ‘em up yourself in our TOPICS list!  (Not every character has a TOPIC, but all the major ones do.)

  1. I love your comics. I like how you used your family in the comics. I was one of the kids at the school you went to on 9-9-08 (Henniker, NH). I think I am going to sign up for the after school class. I can’t wait! Micaela

  2. Thanks, Micaela! It was good to meet you at the school.

It’s true, many of these characters are combinations of real people. Many of the stories are real, too, but they all change somewhat in the telling…
